Ecology Education Program

Climate change, pollution and sustainability are the biggest environmental challenges in the world today. To raise awareness of each generation is substantial to improve current conditions. As a learning center that is aimed providing holistic approach to children education, PAAJAF Foundation is focused on increasing knowledge and consciousness among its students and their families while it provides training in the subject.

In Ghana, there is still a lack of environmental education and awareness, where the depletion of natural resources can undermine the prosperity of the further generations. – Deforestation – Coastal and marine resource degradation – destruction of biodiversity – desertification – Intensive agriculture (land becoming infertile) – water pollution, supply and sanitation issues – urbanization – inefficient waste management and recycling – pollution of all forms – the proliferation and mismanagement of chemicals – illegal mining – overgrazing – soil erosion – poaching and habitat destruction threaten wildlife populations; are among the major challenges that strongly impact Ghana’s environmental management capacity. Defense of environment and natural resources are the fundamental needs of future generations. Affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, are all part of the Sustainable Development Goals that are targeted in the 2030 Agenda for Development adopted by all United Nations members in 2015, aimed at providing a basis for creating a sustainable development for the future populations.

PAAJAF Foundation’s objectives are to raise awareness among children to the importance of environment and natural resources preservation, as well as to teach them to adopt environment-oriented approaches in their everyday life, since an early age. Children will learn about major issues, their inherent risks in global context. Children are the best influencers of families therefore they can make an impact in a community level relatively easily. PAAJAF will co-operate with local NGOs and organizations in the topic. Students should see the locations and the direct impact of the issues on-site while they would get involved into the research, reconstruction and other works of the partners.

Long-term Impact

While children’s awareness about risks and consequences grow from an early age, students will become more sensitive and responsible for their behavior and the ecology. It is more likely that they will minimize their negative impact on the environment. The urgency for change and to adopt new sustainable ways of living can also lead children to produce a shift in their own households and create an outreach to the wider community.
